Children's Health Studies
This page is for parents and guardians of children with asthma, eczema or ADHD. Eczema (atopic dermatitis) makes skin dry, itchy and irritated. ADHD affects attention and behavior. For asthma options, see our COPD & Asthma page.
Common options
- For eczema, gentle daily skin care: short, cool baths and a fragrance-free moisturizer on damp skin.
- For eczema, avoiding triggers such as wool, heat, sweat and scented products.
- For eczema, a mild steroid cream or ointment is usually the first medicine a provider prescribes.
- For ADHD in children under 6, behavior therapy with parent training is recommended first.
- For ADHD in children 6 and older, medicine combined with behavior therapy is recommended.
- For ADHD, classroom support and organizational skills training can be part of treatment.
When to see a doctor
- If your child's eczema doesn't improve with home care, or gets worse.
- Signs of skin infection, such as spreading redness, pus, fever or pain.
- To talk about ADHD medicine doses. The aim is to balance benefits and side effects.
Research studies
Researchers are studying new approaches to children's health. A child joins a study only with a parent's permission and, when the child is able, the child's own agreement. Read Informed consent and your rights.
